An extremely and completely expected course of events that will keep these youngsters in Boston another year.

Not a surprise – the Boston Celtics will pick up the fourth year team option for Robert Williams III as well as the third year team options for both Grant Williams and Romeo Langford. The surprise? Former Phoenix Suns GM Ryan McDonough is the one who broke the news:

It’s very rare for draft picks actually in the rotation to not have their team options picked up for their third and fourth season, especially players who are so essential to the team’s long term plans. Robert Williams continues to grow and make a claim for a larger spot in the rotation after a solid playoff run and a good start to the season – particularly on Sunday night against the Indiana Pacers. On the season, Williams, drafted in 2018, is averaging 8 points and 4 rebounds on 88.9% shooting from the field through two games.

Grant Williams has been a key contributor on many occasions, even playing in the closing minutes of a Game 7 against the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference Finals. He’s continuing to grow in his role, and he’ll be counted on as a key rotation player this season and beyond. This year, Grant Williams is averaging 4.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists on 38.5% shooting from the field.

Romeo Langford has had some tough injury luck since even before being drafted 14th overall by the Celtics last year, but his defensive potential is through the roof. He impressed in his brief moments last year, and when he recovers from right wrist surgery – if the TPE doesn’t suit for Boston by then.

Two out of these three will suit up tonight against the Indiana Pacers at 7 PM EST.
