Williams was not part of the injury report yesterday, so his condition is a recent development.
The Boston Celtics are getting ready to take on the Brooklyn Nets in their first regular season look at the new-look Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant-led Nets, but in addition to the expected scratches, the Cs might be more shorthanded than expected.
#NEBHInjuryReport update vs. Brooklyn:

Robert Williams – QUESTIONABLE – Illness

Every other name on the injury report was there yesterday as expected, but Robert Williams III wasn’t part of the injury report yesterday. It seems that this development of him becoming questionable due to illness is something that materialized this morning if not late yesterday. It hasn’t been categorized as anything COVID-related as of yet, so there’s optimism that it’s not bad to that degree. Hopefully, it’s just that Timelord woke up with a cold and is trying to see how he feels ahead of game time.
If Williams can’t go, that would leave Boston a little more shorthanded than they’d like to be up front. Tristan Thompson and Daniel Theis both suited up and started for Boston in their regular season debut against the Brooklyn Nets, but the availability of Williams will definitely affect how many bigs Stevens puts in the starting lineup. Javonte Green was a healthy scratch against Milwaukee, but maybe he’ll be reinserted with the starters today.
Given that Semi Ojeleye played really well on Wednesday, maybe Brad Stevens will go in the direction of adding another wing defender to make switching a bit more of a viable option as Kevin Durant Kevin Durants it up all over the floor later on today. Stevens has options, but the best option would be to have a front line that’s as healthy as possible, so the best outcome would be for Timelord to be available. He’s not the most disciplined defender, but his athleticism would be a big help against Jarrett Allen, who regularly picks on Boston’s thin front line in recent matchups.
Robert Williams played 12 minutes on Wednesday. With Tristan Thompson potentially still on a minutes restriction, Boston will have to fill those minutes wisely if he’s not able to go. We’ll know more closer to tipoff time.
The Brooklyn Nets are visiting the Boston Celtics today (Christmas Day) at 5 PM EST on ABC.
