The Celtic lost to the 76ers thanks to a turnover-filled first quarter before their rookies showed promise in their debut. John Zannis, Bobby Manning, Josue Pavon and Jimmy Toscano reacted on the Garden Report.
The Garden Report reacted to the loss and a strong 9-for-18, 26-point showing from Aaron Nesmith and Payton Pritchard in their Celtics debuts.
76ers Beat Celtics as Starters Struggle
The Garden Report recaps the opening preseason loss for the Celtics that started in a sloppy way with nine Boston turnovers in the first quarter, Joel Embiid dominance and an early 10-point deficit that the C’s would never recover from. Jayson Tatum turned it over three times and Jaylen Brown four while starting 1-for-9 from the field. Are the starter struggles something to be concerned about?
Payton Pritchard Shines in Celtics Debut vs 76ers
Payton Pritchard scored 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting as the first guard off the Celtics bench in a stellar preseason debut against the 76ers. He added two assists and missed two more on dropped passes inside, along with four rebounds as he dove into the paint relentlessly and flashed a tight dribble, with only two turnovers in 21 minutes.
Jeff Teague Unloads on 76ers in Celtics Debut
Jeff Teague scored 18 points on 7-for-9 shooting including a 4-for-4 outburst in the third quarter that led the Celtics back within three points after trailing by as many as 17. He drilled four straight threes, hit a floater in lane and showed to be a more dynamic backup point guard than Brad Wanamaker at least for one game.
Why did Aaron Nesmith sit in Celtics first half?
Brad Stevens talked all last week about minimizing expectations for Aaron Nesmith due to the quick turnaround from the NBA Draft to the preseason, including that he was struggling just to get up and down the floor when he arrived in Boston. When the Celtics faced the 76ers on Monday, Nesmith did not play until the second half. He ended the night with a solid scoring line and some defensive plays, but is it time to reel in our rookie expectations on Nesmith?
Will the 76ers be better in 2021?
The Garden Report assesses its first look at the Philadelphia 76ers after the Celtics beat them in the first round last year. Philly got to work by firing Brett Brown, hiring Doc Rivers and Daryl Morey before dumping Al Horford and acquiring Danny Green and Seth Curry after drafting Tyrese Maxey. Maxey shined while shooting, defensive wings helped Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons beat the Celtics to begin the preseason. Will they be better after an underwhelming 2020? What’s their ceiling?
James Harden looks fat at Rockets preseason game
A pregame photo did James Harden no favors as he seemingly packed on the pounds over the offseason before showing up late to Rockets camp. The star demanding a trade likely didn’t help his value as the picture circulated the internet drawing laughs from the likes of the Garden Report.
Should Heat trade for Harden after missing Giannis?
The Toronto Raptors and Miami Heat missed long-held dreams of signing Giannis Antetokounmpo next offseason when the Bucks MVP signed a five year extension to stay in Milwaukee through 2026. The Heat kept Bam Adebayo on his own extension while Toronto signed Fred VanVleet long term, but both teams could use one more piece to beat a Los Angeles Lakers caliber Finals foe. Could that piece be James Harden?
